Beautiful Beginning once more!

Today : 2nd Jan 2020

Just wished someone a very happy new year and a very beautiful beginning to a new decade. 

Day before yesterday night: Bangalore.

People were dancing like there was no tomorrow and the energy was unimaginable.  ‘Hey, Happy New Year!’, said someone all covered in scarf and I wished back!! Does not matter who wished, but every one responded.

“So what?” Asked my son, sleepy-eyed, tired from the cold night’s new year lighting, dinner, stage show, yelling, running around, and finally when he almost took an oath never to stand near the loud speaker, I looked at the watch. It was 11:30 P.M. 

I brought the children upstairs and got them to understand that the noise is okay because people are celebrating the end of this year and the beginning of a brand new year.

"So what?" He asked again. My son asks these sensible questions that make you stop on your tracks sometimes. 

With what I can claim to be my skill in getting the children to sleep when they are sleepy( !!!!????), he drifted off to sleep amidst the loudest cheer, noise, fireworks and in general, craziness.

I sat wide awake. I could not sleep for a long time, even after the noises faded because the question was very drilling. 

So what? The Earth just completed one full revolution around the Sun and started yet another Revolution. 

So what? The Calendar just changed from 31-12-2019 to 01-01-2020.

So what? We are just happy to see another year which means a new year full of opportunities.

So what? 

We had it last year too and many years prior to the last one. What did we do significantly so far, to be able to celebrate as we got another chance to see another decade?
  • How many new people did we meet?
  • How many friends we made?
  • How many times did we smile and make another smile?
  • How many times did we thank anyone or anything or even identify things that we should be thankful for?
  • What new interest did we develop?
  • What hobby did we practice?
  • How much did we give? 
  • How much did we save?
  • How much did we make?
  • How many travels we managed?
  • Did we take care of health?
  • Did we learn anything new?

Questions are endless, but good to remember that it is:
  • One more chance to correct yourself,
  • One more chance to mend a broken heart, 
  • One more chance to stand up for someone, 
  • One more chance to make someone smile, 
  • One more chance to chase a sensible goal, 
  • One more chance to build a fitness routine, 
  • One more chance to change something about you and your society, One more chance to win someone’s trust, 
  • One more chance to believe, 
  • One more chance to love, 
  • One more chance to hope and 
  • One more chance to make a difference, big or small to someone, this day forward!

It is also true of every day! In every situation!  With every person!, At all times, As long as we live!. 

New year day is just a festive reminder to this list of ‘Once more’, as Earth naturally and successfully completes its joyride around the Sun, once more!

January 1st 2020: Morning: I wished my children ‘Happy New Year 2020’ and my daughter asks me : "So did u see something happen in the night sky between the time we slept and woke up?? How is today different from yesterday??"

Now, I know why Smiling is important !!!! :-) Indeed a beautiful beginning!

A very common question I got asked over the last one month's time by many of my friends. The answer has to be simple: I have a, b, c things to do or 1, 2, 3 places to go to or i, ii, iii work to complete... and the like.. Sargam - A 1992 Movie Review

This is a malayalam movie directed by Hariharan. Probably everyone in Kerala would have watched this many times. I got a chance to watch this movie yesterday. Brilliant make - a nice mix of psychology and music. I could identify, Vineeth, Renuka, Thilagan, and Nedumudi Venu in the movie. I wouldnt know the rest of the stars but I must say the movie has been done very well and is set in the late seventies or so it seems. Or may be the nineties itself. I would not know such a set up because I grew up in Tamil Nadu. The whole movie has been shot in a bungalow of old times. They call it Kovilagam which seems to mean Temple. I assume that the ancestors of this family had once been very rich and provided for the families working for them and lived a kingly life with great taste towards traditional arts. Thappad - A slap!

'Thappad' translates to Slap in English. I loved the lead lady's facial expression in the trailer, so I clicked 'Play' to watch the movie.  The storyline goes like this:  Amrita and Varun are happily married. Varun gets a senior role in London. The couple had been waiting to relocate to London. When the news of the promotion and the role officially came in Varun throws a party for a close circle of 40 people - professional and personal. The evening was fun-filled which directly translates to drinks, dance, food, and networking. The boss quietly tells Varun that the offer has been passed on to someone else, and Varun is going to stay in India. To everyone's disapproval and dismay, Varun loses his cool and yells at the boss and the other people whom he suspected may have had a corporate politics role-play behind the change of plans.
