A Wallet's day out

Hey, Hope you are doing well. I live in the college bag of this young lady who adores me. I am a wallet and responsible for many things in her life - credit card, debit card, money are a few of her assets that she has entrusted with me. I think it must be special to her, as she never once shifted my contents into any other wallet or purse. She keeps me safe inside her bag all the time. We share a special relationship - this girl and I.   Let’s call her Ms.Intern as she just joined a new company as part of her college internship program. I get to listen into all conversations of hers and that’s how I know that she is a college student who is interning in Company A as a Trainee Executive in the Commerce Department.   All good-looking and smart, I would say. One of my flaps has a mirror which Ms.Intern uses to touch up her carefully careless make-up once in a while. That’s how I get to see her face too.   I am brown colored and have a shiny little square trinke...

Just for a change…

It is important to change things, pattern, order, mood, routine, clothes, food… Monotone can hit us in a very, very subtle way. Multiple subtle hits can cause a ridge of damage to our lives and the surrounding lives. If you have  been in the same place for a long time worn the same/similar colored clothes have met the same people for years now have kept things exactly at the same place every single day over the last few years been to the same places regularly been following the same TV programme been doing the same exercise in the same order for the same number of minutes every day been eating the same items in your breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner times been sleeping and waking up on time, no matter how busy the rest of the household/community is on an occasion been reading the same author been walking/riding/driving on the same road to and from somewhere then you are on the way to what I call  ‘ Monotone distress’ Always , everyone cannot get a c...

Mini Mind Theatre: Movie - Just in time

On a casual conversation today, I mentioned to a friend: "It is like am watching a thriller movie, all scary, and the movie is starring me!!!” Coming to think of it, it's nice to imagine ourselves sitting alone in a movie theatre, munching popcorn or chips and watching our own situations being screened as a movie. I think it may be interesting in many ways: There is no prior review of the movie that you can read, as it is your life and running live. You are the only spectator. There is no need to get stressed, as it is just a movie and you are free to emote based on the story, and still be assured it is not happening in the ‘Now’. You can clearly see the responses and reactions of the actors in the story because you are sitting in the audience side and can understand what is working well and what does not. You can be your own critic. The movie will not fetch money, so in essence it is just done as an expressive artwork just for your eyes. The movie d...

Footprint

… Whenever I hear this word, my mind recalls the image of the seashore and a single file of footprints. The famous poem of Footprints is about how the child learns that the single set of prints are those of God who carried the child in times of trouble. It was a rainy evening in Bangalore, yesterday. I was listening to Rahman’s high-energy music and was literally dancing in my mind to the tune, with my feet racing and pacing to the notes in the song. I got drenched in the rain and happily so, after a long time. I was just enjoying myself thoroughly when I saw a footprint on the concrete pavement.  Just one file of footprints to me seemed to tell a history note -  of someone who had walked on the pavement, as soon as they had finished making the cement layer on the concrete pavement. How careless!! was the first impression. The concrete dried, pavement became operational, but the footprint stayed. I smiled. This morning, on my way to work, I got off the bus on...

Being alone, Being in the company of self, Being Lonely and Dementia

Disclaimer :  This post does not apply to people who channelize their minds towards spirituality so that the negative thoughts ease off due to practiced prayer and calmness and the mind has free disk space and ego levels come low. They will naturally be able to meet people and greet people with ease. Their need to be approved, appreciated, accepted, loved will be lower because they believe in the love of God and know that Providence sends the right people at the right time to them. The whole post applies to : A large population of men who irrespective of whether they talk or not, never really connect or trust their heads and hearts with another person. People who detach themselves completely from the world even when they are among people. People who do not think anyone else is necessary at all. People who think they are wasting time talking to people. People who think they can live and die alone. People who are unknowingly getting into depression because they ...

Our Last Working Day!!!

On this Earth, for most human beings, comes unannounced and as a complete surprise!! Human beings have many priorities at the many pedestals they stand upon, in the various stages of their lives. In the pedestal of childhood, the most important stage is to make new friends and the highest priority besides cakes and chocolates is to play outdoor games. In the pedestal of adolescence, the most important stage is to leave home to go to University for most people, and the highest priority is to enjoy everything. In the pedestal of early adulthood, the most important stage is to achieve in education and the highest priority is to be independent. In the pedestal of adulthood, the most important stage is to find a life partner and the highest priority is to live a happy marriage. In the pedestal of middle-age, the most important stage is to keep the family happy and the highest priority is to find our own happiness despite the odds facing us. In the pedestal...

Talk to Teen and Know there is a Maze

I met this expressive, brilliant, sensitive, bubbly and beautiful teen kid yesterday. Had a lot of talking time. 'If you are bored with life, catch hold of a child and talk’, is what I used to think. But, the newer version is ‘Talk to a Teen’. Three plus hours with her and her folks made me wonder…. Lots are being said about…. well a lot of things today.  How to raise smart kids? How to do it yourself? How to find work-life ba lance? How to enjoy life? How not to eat? How not to live? How not to talk? How to speak to a child? How much is too much in disciplining a child? How to use a specific technology? What is it like to travel to this exotic place? How spirituality is important? How politician is the only cause for virtually any problem in the society? How much is too much of information? How to multiply money? How to become famous? How to be rich and get richer? How to sit?  How to sleep? How to stand? When there is so much that’s alr...

Enjoy Life!

Enjoy Life! What could it be really?? On a casual yet, planned conversation yesterday with a friend of mine, he mentioned: "Somewhere along the way, we have forgotten to enjoy life". The ‘we’ referred to most people in the Indian sub-continent. I could not agree more. An hour ago, in the Monday morning traffic, window-seated in a bus, I was listening to a very famous Tamil poet’s song: Chinnanchiru Kileye sung by a voice that practically can stop me on my tracks: Unnikrishnan. Oh! it was divine - the whole experience! I watched the fresh green leaves of the Gulmohar trees lined up on the road, sway in a perfect choreography to the tune. [I enjoy Bharatanatyam, the South-Indian classical dance, so much that I start mentally choreographing some really good musicals as I listen to songs. I did not chance to perform in twenty plus years now, still, the love of Bharatanatyam has not faded one bit in my being.] The experience was all the more engagingly enjoyable and ...

I’ve come a long way!

From the anthill to the hallway to the sugar cube to the anthill is a long way for an ant. From the farmers to the market is a long way for the rice grain. From the egg to the chick to the chopping table is a long way for the chicken. From the bed to the bath and back to the bed is a long way for an ailing elderly person. From the bed to the bathroom to dining table to school gate to class is a long way for a toddler. After an overwhelmingly occupying morning with the kitchen and kids, from the bath to the dresser to the dining table to the vehicle through the traffic to the office campus gate to the elevator to the desk to the login is a long way for a working mom. So, when we say, "I’ve come a long way", could it really mean that we have been through some experiences worth our while? Dreams take us a long way than the Waking hours. Struggles take us a long way than the Effortlessness. Failures take us a long way than the Successes. Understanding tak...
